Introduction

Pre-vet is a three-act interactive VR/Desktop training experience designed to help students with real-world veterinary casework through narrative scenarios. This immersive simulation guides users through a structured case workup process, emphasizing diagnostics, communication, and patient management.

Act one

Act one inserts the student into the role of an extern on their first day of their externship at an animal hospital. During the first act, the student conducts a wellness exam on both a healthy and sick dog – taking their patient history, performing a brief physical exam, and assessing temperature, pulse, and respiration findings. At the same time, they answer interactive questions about normal and abnormal findings while ending with an assignment to develop a simple problem list.

Act two

Act two consists of working through a diagnostic workup as they work up a dog presenting with lethargy, a limp, coughing, and inappetence. The student helps order and review bloodwork, radiographs, and specialized tests before helping with the final diagnosis

Act three

Students handle triage and client communication in act three as they take on the role of a veterinary receptionist. Students will help manage emergency calls, in-person visits, and phone triage to understand the flow and intricacies of human interactions in the veterinary field.
